Give me a character and I will tell you...

* How I feel about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
* Something about them I consider true, even though it's only my head canon/fanon

meme!

I have a novel in progress, my yuletide fic to do, and I just got some work done on a new Bloody Jack fic. Of course I have free time for a meme! (I love these things.)

Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I'll give you one sentence from that story.

My additions: possibly more than one sentence, and I'm open for fan fic or original fiction.

From [livejournal.com profile] lotesseflower: Pick any passage of 500 words or less from any story I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you the equivalent of a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you’d expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

You can find all of my fics here.
amelia_petkova: (Default)
Even though I'm still anxious to finish my original novel, it seems that writing and posting my first fic since Yuletide flipped my "must write all the fic now!" switch. And I'm glad of it. Turns out the other switch that got flipped is "must give the world more Jacky Faber fic!" So here are excerpts from all my Bloody Jack stories currently in progress.

Bloody Jack/Ranma 1/2 crack crossover:
As much as he loves her, Jaimy has to admit that Jacky is not always good for his mental health and emotional well-being.

Amy getting her inner journalist on after the events of "In the Belly of the Bloodhound":
One does not try to argue what Jacky Faber should or should not have done. That way lies madness. More pressing are the facts that Amy’s classmates appear ready to wage war upon England and Amy would like to join them.

Bloody Jack/Zorro crossover:
“Black is a good choice,” Jacky says to Don Diego. “It melts into the shadows when necessary and is dramatic enough to help steal the hearts of young ladies—isn’t that right dearest?” she adds to her husband.

“It was an unintentional result,” he says dryly.

I've seen this meme multiple times but most recently it comes from netgirl_y2k

Pick a story I've written, and comment to this post with it. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that fic: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

The change I made is that I'm impatient and didn't feel like waiting for responses, so I went ahead and chose to write about "A Lost Child in a Forgotten Tale", my El laberinto del fauno/Labyrinth crossover. Feel free to pick any other fics for me to do commentary on, if you feel like it.

WIP meme

That meme where you post excerpts from your current Works In Progress

The Decemberists
The landlord’s daughter sank to the bottom of the stream. The robber tucked her underneath the roots of a willow that hung over the water. Between the tree and its shade, she wouldn’t be easily seen. Such precautions were likely unnecessary as the area was secluded, but caution was always a good idea. Should anybody spy her, he would be far gone by then. And in any case, these things happened. Wealthy women should know better than to go walking alone.

El laberinto del fauno/Revolutionary Girl Utena
At the end of one hall there was a narrow, curving staircase. Something bounced down the steps and halted against her foot. It was a wooden spindle. Ofelia peered into the dark staircase. The rhythmic noise was coming from above. Holding the spindle, she climbed.

At the top of a great many stairs, she found a windowless room. In the center of the room, a dark-skinned woman wearing a scarlet dress and a gold crown sat at a spinning wheel. Piles of unsheathed swords surrounded her.

Bloody Jack
If she is honest with herself (and she tries to be), Amy Trevelyne is not entirely surprised that Jacky leaves a fair bit of Boston burning when she rides out of town just ahead of Constable Wiggins. It briefly puts Amy in mind of Paul Revere's famous ride before the Revolution, although Mr. Revere never committed accidental arson. For Amy is sure that it was an accident--Jacky never intends to be a harbringer of chaos, though chaos happens all the same.

5 things that happened in a fandom of mine that I know are true, even though there is little or no canon evidence.

I think the original meme requests 10 things but I have trouble coming up with that many! Spoilers follow.

From [livejournal.com profile] bwinter:

You, the friendslist, give me two characters you know I'm familiar with from different fandoms, and I'll give you a dialogue between them, without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed, or how they could even meet each other -- just a silly crossover conversation for fun with no backstory.

(My note: for fandoms, just poke through my LJ or check out my works list at AO3.)

Because it's not as though I have multiple fanfic and original WIPs already! Memes are one of those things where I can't resist temptation but I don't really care much about resisting in the first place.
amelia_petkova: (Labyrinth peach)
I found this one while wandering around LJ:

Write 10 different categories of fic, each in 10 words or less.

Revolutionary Girl Utena!

With a lack of anything of substance to post, here's another meme. I've seen this one floating around on several blogs in the past week:

Give me a character's name and I will tell you three reasons why it would be terrible to try to date them, have sex with them, or be in a long-term relationship with them.

For an extra challenge, pick characters you know I'm really fond of. Anyone can tell you reasons not to date Cthulhu, after all.

zombie meme

Even though zombies aren't really my thing, I had to laugh when I saw this meme through [livejournal.com profile] netgirl_y2k:

Go look at your blog. Find the last Fandom-related thing you posted. The characters in that post are now your team-mates in the Zombie Apocalypse. How fucked are you?

Even though it was only a brief mention, my last thing was Labyrinth. I don't know how much help many of the characters would be, but if the apocalypse is taking place in the Labyrinth universe, there are the options of:

Wishing the zombies away
Dropping them into oubliettes
Dropping them into the Bog of Eternal Stench

I will admit this potentially creates the problem of zombie goblins.

(Finished moving just about a week ago. I still have stuff lying around and I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not on vacation, I have to get back into the habit of being productive.)

Today I have work, packing, and traveling for a party tomorrow. So clearly it's the right time for a meme!

Name me a character from a fandom I have known, and I will tell you:

* How I FEEEEEL about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

Two notes of my own to add to this:

Dead historical figures are fair game in addition to any fictional fandoms you've seen me mention on here, and

I may occasionally end up bailing on the "unpopular opinion" question; I'm not active in a lot of fandom communities so don't know what a lot of the unpopular opinions are.

The BBC believes most people will have read only 6 of the 100 books listed here. Bold those books you've read in their entirety, underline what you've read more than once, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish or read an excerpt.

My comment: I took the "bold" instruction to mean "books you've completed once."

I've just started my last semester of grad school, I'm trying to complete revisions on a novel, and I'm still frantically working away at [livejournal.com profile] au_bingo. So clearly, it's time for a meme!

Choose any of my fan fictions and I will write a DVD-style commentary for it.

You can see my fics either by clicking on my "fan fiction" tag or looking up my profile at AO3. (Keep in mind that the recent bingo fics aren't posted at AO3 yet.)

Comment and I'll give you a letter, then you have to list ten people/places/things you love that begin with that letter, afterwards post it on your journal and fill out letters of your own.

I got the letter "M" from [livejournal.com profile] bwinter several days ago but didn't have time to do the meme until now. Here we go!

Mint
I love to drink mint tea, especially the Harney & Sons brand. Mint juleps and mint candy are good, too. Mint planted in the garden is also a great idea though you need to have it in a contained area, unless you want it to take over your entire property.

Mermaid
I spent one semester researching mythology and folktales related to mermaids and other supernatural women connected to bodies of water. It was some of the most fun I've ever had.

Museum
Even though you usually can't touch the items, I have so much fun in museums. I seek them out wherever I go.

Medieval
I love to learn about countries' different medieval periods. Even in two regions next to each other, what they consider to consist of "medieval" can be wildly different. At this time, I'm most interested in medieval Spain.

Meme
Who doesn't love doing Internet memes? They're a great way to kill time, learn more about your online friends, and get ideas for writing.

Maureen O'Hara
Maureen O'Hara is an awesome actress. I've only seen her in two movies (The Quiet Man and the original version of The Parents Trap) but she steals the show in both of them. If you haven't seen a movie with this woman, you have no idea what you're missing.

Mediterranean
I'd like to see more of the countries around the Mediterranean; maybe go on a cruise someday.

Hayao Miyazaki
His movies are enchanting, pure and simple. I think the first one I ever saw was Princess Mononoke. The animation style is amazing and unforgettable, and the stories are enchanting. His movies always have the best soundtracks, too.

Music
I can't write without music. I just got a new CD ("Caledonia's Hardy Sons" by Silly Wizard) and I'm still at the stage where I listen to it again and again.

Mythology
Give me any mythology to read about, and I'll be happy for days.
amelia_petkova: (lenore)
I’m working a lot on revising today, both original work and fan fiction. So clearly, the best thing to do is take part in a fan fic meme! (Not like I don’t already have 20-plus other ideas for stories to write.) I got it from such_heights.

fifteen word stories

1. Write down the names of 10 characters.
2. Write a fic of fifteen words or fewer for every prompt, using the characters determined by the numbers. Do NOT read the prompts before you do step 1.

Seriously, try this meme. It's a hell of a lot of fun.

Author's Notes/Source Information
--"The Rake's Song" is from the album "The Hazards of Love." Listen to it on YouTube. The lyrics sum things up pretty well. Nightmare fuel, ahoy!
--Charlie is female (short for Charlotte)
--Austin is a one-eyed cat
--Minor spoilers for The Long, Hot Summoning by Tanya Huff.
--More Author's Notes at the end

These pairings are all insane )
