Turns out it's a good thing that I read a number of Tumblr blogs despite not having an account, or I never would have heard of this. Ebooks Tree is a website claiming to have free ebooks for download (though it turns out there's some financial skeeviness involved if you try to sign up for a membership). Turns out they've taken a lot of fan fic from AO3 and posted it without the authors' permission, as well as original published fiction.

Thankfully all of the AO3 stuff seems to have been taken down in the past couple of days (they even seem to have had my self-published book on there, the assholes). Still, I thought it would be good to do a post about this in case anybody reads my blog and hasn't seen what happened on Tumblr.

Diane Duane has a very useful post on how to search for your writing online in case it's been pirated elsewhere.

A discussion at FFA.

A post by the OTW/AO3 folks on the situation when it was happening with helpful information on how to fill in a DCMA takedown notice.

Title: That’s Not Fair

Title: Naughty or Nice

Fandom: Labyrinth
Author's Notes: Written for Winterfest 2014 at [livejournal.com profile] labyfic
Summary: It was the first time somebody had wished Santa away but it wouldn’t be the last. A look at some of the encounters between Santa Claus and the Goblin King over the years.
Disclaimer: Not mine, don't sue, I don't want to end up on the 'Naughty' list.

Today's amused mood brought on by the realization that Jeff Bridges was not just the voice of Prince Lir in The Last Unicorn but also Rooster Cogburn in the remake of True Grit. They're both great films and characters! Just completely and totally different!

(I've also been entertaining myself by starting a Labyrinth fic involving peach season during my long wait at far too early in the damn morning o'clock at the mechanic today.)

yay!

I was dealing with some frustrating stuff earlier today and this cheered me up so much: a fic of mine was (positively) mentioned on fail-fandomanon!!! That explains where the recent kudos and comments came from.

Title: It Takes Practice

Fandom: Vision of Escaflowne
Summary: Hitomi watches the Winter Olympics non-stop and Van thinks anybody who doesn’t die during it should win a medal.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Escaflowne or the Olympics.
Author’s Notes: Sort of a companion to No Gold Medal, which I wrote during the last Summer Olympics. The inspiration for this ficlet can be boiled down to two things: 1) I will never tire of writing “fish-out-of-water” Van silliness, and 2) I think Hitomi would totally be a sports fanatic whenever she had the chance. Possibly contains some OOC but I was having too much fun to care.

Who's an expert on winter now? )

I'm struggling with revising an original fiction scene, so it's time to distract myself with LJ. I LOVE writing crossovers. And for some reason, almost every "Bloody Jack" plot bunny I come up with involves a crossover or historical figures. I posted about this a while back, but here's an updated list of the things I want to write. Some are historically plausible; others fall into the "crack fic" category.

Zorro

Brothers Grimm

Louisa May Alcott

Jane Austen/her characters

Mary Shelley

Washington Irving/his characters

Mark Twain

The Scarlet Pimpernel

Montmaray Journals by Michelle Cooper

Frenchman’s Creek by Daphne du Maurier

The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope

Johnny Appleseed

Cowboy Bebop

Muppet Treasure Island

Taken from multiple people:

I currently have 55 works archived at the AO3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 55 (the first thing I posted there), and I’ll tell you three things I currently like about it.

Previously, I wanted to see Blossom Culp and Flavia de Luce meet. Now I want to know what Blossom and the Crawley sisters from Downton Abbey would make of each other. You could throw in the Dowager Countess for good measure. Blossom and Alexander were in England in 1912, it could happen!

I have a question for readers of The Company series by Kage Baker. Can anybody tell me approximately when Lewis would have been born or made an "employee" of Dr. Zeus? I was reading Sappho’s poetry recently and I’m thinking of writing a fic where they meet. (They’re a perfect combination! We have only bits and pieces of Sappho’s poetry, so Lewis could have been sent to get copies of her completed poems before they became fragmented!)

Title: Selections from the Professional Correspondence of Amy Trevelyne, 19th Century American Author

Fandom: Bloody Jack
Word Count: 2,100
Summary: AKA, Amy’s fan mail.
Disclaimer and Notes: I am sorry to say that I still do not own any of the characters from “Bloody Jack”. My thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bookelfe for beta-reading.

I firmly believe that Amy Trevelyne has fangirls and at least a few fanboys of her own )

From [livejournal.com profile] lotesseflower: Pick any passage of 500 words or less from any story I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you the equivalent of a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you’d expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

You can find all of my fics here.

Title: No Gold Medal

Fandom: Vision of Escaflowne
Summary: The appearance of a dragon during an Olympic event is cause for disqualification.
Disclaimer: I don’t own either Escaflowne or the Olympics.
Author’s Notes: While watching this year’s Olympic track events, I started to think about what tends to happen to Hitomi when she’s in races. And then I couldn’t stop giggling.

Is this a bad time? )

So in the Bloody Jack universe, Amy Trevelyne's books are hugely popular and are shown to have made it across much of the English-speaking/reading world. Seconds ago, I was hit with a desire for fan fic of characters in that universe writing Jacky Faber fic. Also, I would love to see Amy's fan mail.

I had to do it! I regret nothing.

Title: The Course of True Love Never Did Run Smooth
Fandoms: Bloody Jack, Labyrinth
Summary: Five times Jacky and Jaimy didn’t get married, and one time they did.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the characters from Bloody Jack; if I did, Jacky and Jaimy would be married by now.

featuring abductions, other suitors, and jail, among other things )

I'm pretending that this isn't going to be contradicted by canon.

Title: Like Sensible People Do
Fandom: Avatar: Legend of Korra
Summary: Asami is going to fix this stupid love triangle. Contains spoilers through 1x09.
Word Count: 1,400
Disclaimer: I do not own anybody from Legend of Korra.

in which the girls come up with another option )
amelia_petkova: (Default)
Today I got all depressed over my real life problems so like any good fandom girl, I started another Bloody Jack fic to cheer myself up. I've only written the opening so far:

It wasn't hard to identify the morning sickness--Dorothea had never experienced it before but she knew what to look for after Jacky's most useful lecture on "Things Your Own Mothers Should Have Told You But Plainly Did Not". She wasn't entirely certain what would happen along the way--Jacky's lecture didn't completely cover Dorothea's situation--but there was one thing she knew for sure:

Mistress was going to kill her.

Title: Roses and Swords

Fandoms: Revolutionary Girl Utena and El laberinto del fauno/Pan’s Labyrinth
Summary: A princess meets a witch.
Disclaimer: I don’t own either Utena or Pan’s Labyrinth.
Author’s Notes: Most of my Utena crossovers are written with the intent of being as silly as possible. This…is not one of them.

there is not much difference between a princess and a witch )
amelia_petkova: (Default)
Not sure where this came from but all of a sudden I want an AU fic where the ladies of Downton Abbey (at least the Crawley sisters and probably Lavinia, too) are spies and run around getting shit done during WWI.
amelia_petkova: (lenore)
Title: Spring of Drowned Troublemaker
Fandoms: Bloody Jack, Ranma 1/2
Summary: Jacky and Jaimy are reunited, but Jacky (as usual) has a surprise. Set following “The Mark of the Golden Dragon” and contains spoilers through that book.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Bloody Jack of Ranma 1/2.
Author’s Notes: I was giggling like a fiend while I wrote this. Poor Jaimy. But really, this can’t possibly be weirder than anything Rumiko Takahashi has done to her characters.

Now Jaimy, I swear it wasn't my fault )
