I still don't always feel grown-up but I suppose one sign of adulthood is that for your birthday, you ask your parents for kitchen items. I now have a blender and a grater. On the surface not very exciting but I can now make smoothies (blender) or zucchini bread (grater needed). Oh my god, I love zucchini bread so much! (I'm not crazy about the vegetable itself but you include only about a cup of it and there's brown sugar involved.) I also love being able to buy a lot of fruit at affordable prices now that it's summer. (Maybe blueberry pancakes later!)

I've decided that for my birthday this year, I'm goign to ask my parents to stop giving me gifts. I haven't celebrated my birthday in years, and it's high time I mentioned that to my family.

Any specific reason to stop celebrating, or just that it's become like any other day. (I didn't do anything special on my birthday this year, unless spending more money at the mechanic than I expected to counts, but I did end up on a brief family trip to Canada the following weekend.)

That should be a question mark at the end of the first sentence.

It's complicated, but the short version is, yeah. I really just don't care about my age other than a handful of vaguely relevant milestones. I'm old enough to vote, drink, smoke, fight in a war, and rent a car. I'm completely unelectable so I don't care if I can run for president anyway, and I'm pretty sure my retirement age will change a great deal between now and whenever-that-is so it's not worth noting either.

Retirement age? What is this myth you speak of? :)

It's this magical time when the coroner signs off on the form which says your family may now receive your life insurance benefits. Also your rent gets cheaper.
