meeting authors

I'm home from school this weekend and went to an annual children's book festival. My writing is oriented more towards teens and adults, but I'll go to anything involving books and writing. They had a great turnout; I know because I kept almost tripping over children. There were at least 20 authors and illustrators. One of them was Vivian Vande Velde.
Vivian Vande Velde (yes, that's her real name) has written lots of great children's and teens' fantasy novels. I met her twice before this event--the first time was at a writing workshop she did when I was an early teenager; the second time she was giving a lecture for a class that my mother was attending for graduate school, and so I went along. I'm amazed she remembered me this day; it's been at least 5 years! But it was such a great feeling; she's a nice woman.
I also chatted with the author of Bunnicula, a classic children's novel about a vampire rabbit. Somehow I never got around to reading it. James Howe (the author) pretended to be so horrified that I bought a copy of it.
I love meeting authors.
