(The computer ate my entry yesterday, so I need to repost it.)

I was browsing about on Wikipedia and saw that January 29 was the anniversary of Disney´s release of Sleeping Beauty in 1959. One of my friends and I can rant for hours on end about how Disney bastardized fairy tales, but the movies are still addictive. During November I watched this movie for the first time in at least six years.

Things I Like:
--The music is from the ballet by Tchaikovsky, who rocks my socks. (If I could play in the orchestra for any performance, it would be his Swan Lake .)
--The animation is beautiful.
--I like Aurora/Briar Rose. She seems clever/sly at points.
--Meriweather kicks ass.
--Aurora and Phillip meet and fall in love before they know they are engaged. ("Love at first sight," but oh well.) It works nicely around that whole "arranged marriage" thing. (I didn´t realize this until my recent viewings.)
--The movie didn´t do that well when released, and it´s fun to root for the underdog.
--Maleficent is one hell of a scary villain. Also, she gets to swear. ("Now you shall deal with me, o prince, and all the powers of Hell!")

Interesting:
--Aurora´s mother (unnamed) has only a couple lines, and there is no record of who her voice actor was.
--If you were to use this movie for a drinking game, you would take a sip each time one of the fairies says, "dear."
