my day just got awesome
Oct. 12th, 2010 10:04 pmI'd known about the new edition of the audio book for The Last Unicorn for a while, but it wasn't until today that I realized you could download the first two chapters for free! It's like Pavlov's Dog: say "Peter S. Beagle" and I go into Fangirl Mode. You can get the information about it here.
I'm partway through Chapter 2 while writing this. Beagle is the reader and he's perfect. The narration is lovely and he manages to get all the different voices without going to parody-like extremes. It just sounds right.
And there's music--there's music included at the chapter beginnings! The music is by Jeff Slingluff. I'm particularly in love with the song at the novel's beginning.
I can't say too much more about the audio book yet, as the complete product is almost 7 and a half hours, and the sample is about 1 hour. But it's beautiful and the download is the best decision I've made this week, at least. (This may be going on my Christmas list this year.) Go check it out now. Whether you're already a fan of the book or have never heard of Beagle, download it. You won't regret it.
And because the Internet occasionally provides awesome, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab has done perfumes to go with the book. Last Unicorn perfumes! Seriously, all-out fangirl mode. I've never tried any of BPAL's products (and I really don't need to be spending money on perfume right now) but these ones sound amazing. At the Conlan Press website, you can read the descriptions for:
"The Last Unicorn"
"The Butterfly"
"The Midnight Carnival"
"The Ninth Cage"
"Arachne of Lydia"
I have to admit that I'm disturbed of what the "King Haggard" scent might smell like, though it's entertaining to imagine "The Amorous Tree" and "The Skull."
I love this book so damn much.
