Historical Events
Oct. 25th, 2006 06:17 pmOn this day, October 25, in history:
--1400: Geoffrey Chaucer dies.

--1760: George III becomes King of Great Britain.
Aka, the King Who Went Batshit Insane.
--1854: The Battle of Balaklava during the Crimean War (Charge of the Light Brigade).
I realize that the Crimean War was not at all amusing, but the first time I read this sentence I saw "The Battle of Baklava." Reaction: "What? They had a battle over a pastry ?"
1920: Alexander I of Greece dies.
An interesting-sounding fellow, who died from a monkey bite .
--1983: Operation Urgent Fury.
The other students and I learned about this in Anthropology of the Caribbean. After hearing the name, none of us could stop laughing for the rest of the class period.
--2002: Richard Harris dies.
Goodbye, Dumbledore.
