Last night I went with the family to see Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I had a lot of fun watching it, though I almost never wore the 3D glasses (too big for my head and they didn't really fit over my regular glasses).

Before I dig into the movie, I need to talk about previews. Out of the five previews we saw, the plots of the first two revolved around women being attacked, and in the third the only woman featured was a mobster's girlfriend that our antihero falls in love/lust with. Drop dead, Hollywood. (I will say that one of the "female victim" movies features a woman and two men in an apparently stable and happy threesome, which really surprised me.)

A lot of the stunts made me laugh; I don't think that was the reaction the creators were going for but when I see Abraham Lincoln doing Hollywood Martial Arts while spinning an axe around, I'm gonna laugh. At one point I left to use the bathroom; when I got back my mother said that there was a scene where Lincoln was chasing a vampire and they were running on the backs of a herd of horses. I laughed. Later, she remembered to tell me that at one point, the vampire picked up a horse by the legs and threw it at Lincoln. It was not meant to be a comedy scene. I laughed some more.

I'm disappointed that the creators didn't pick up what could have been if they'd decided to include Mary Todd Lincoln as a vampire hunter as well, but at least she got to shoot the vampire who killed her son. I was also relieved that with the "vampire ball" thing the creators didn't decide to go the route of forcing Lincoln to attend by kidnapping Mary. The love interest never got abducted or directly attacked! And she got to shoot somebody!

All of the Ye Olde Sunglasses also made me chuckle.

When Lincoln and Will had to jump across the train cars on the bridge that caught fire, I started having flashbacks to the cliff-jumping scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Will lived! They didn't kill off Will/the only major character of color!!! I was so excited about that after all the scenes where he could have easily been killed off.

I haven't read the book but I've been told how it ends. The closing scene in the movie was okay but I think it would have been even more awesome if they had used the book's closing scene.
