I got around to watching it. Reactions with spoilers are behind the cut.

The opening scene: my immediate reaction was the Monty Python "Bring out your dead!" bit. Oh hey, Morgause is in the cart. I wasn't too far off!

Merlin's still unappreciated. What else is new?

Lancelot, what happened to your hair? At least it's still good that Merlin has one person besides Gaius who knows about his magic.

The Isle of the Blessed does not look that blessed to me.

Gwen, still so awesome and pretty!

Morgause: "There is nothing left for me here now." Followed by soulful eyes from Morgana. I admit, I was expecting a "What about me?" response with more faux-medieval, incestuous, lesbian subtext.

What exactly is Morgause's sacrifical death supposed to do? Does Morgana acquire her magical powers. All I can think is that this means there is no longer anyone to keep Morgana from doing stupid shit. (This was before Gaius's exposition on the Monster of the Week.)

So Arthur plans to sacrifice himself to stop the monsters. First of all, you're an idiot for making that decision when you don't have a clear successor. (I still hold to this after we find out that Agravaine is intended to take over.) Secondly, didn't we already do this in the unicorn and labyrinth episode?

I love Morgana's Morticia Addams dress.

Ending reaction: I don't hate it like I did most of Season 3 but I don't love it, either. I may watch some episodes here and there if the previews look good, but I won't be waiting for it each week.

That was basically my reaction too. It didn't make me unpleasantly angry the way lots of S3 did, but it also didn't make me feel anything else. And while it'll be nice not to have to make my excuses and leave the room if other people want to watch it, I can't imagine sitting down especially to see it.

It's now the kind of show where I might marathon every few weeks, if I need something that's "fun" but I don't have to pay a lot of attention to while knitting.

I adored the Merlin and Arthur bonding scene at the end (plus the "i think I'm more scared than you" moment). However, as they lack continuity ever, I suspect this will be forgotten within three episodes.

It's all because of an evil wizard! A clever, conniving evil wizard who knows how to repeatedly derail continuity in order to keep the "heroes" from advancing the plot.
