One of my knees has been a bit stiff for several days now, probably from doing a lot of going up and down stairs for a couple days last week. Today it got really annoying; not quite pain, just stiff enough for me to get fed up. When one of your joints is stiff, does anybody know whether it's better to use a heat pack or something cold on it?

Heat will make it feel better, but cold will reduce the swelling and stiffness.

A cox-2 inhibitor, like ibuprofen, acetaminophen, or naproxen sodium will also reduce pain and swelling.

However, bear in mind that stiff, swollen joints are that way for a reason, and the best thing to do is let it heal by staying off it.

Thanks for the tips. I started taking some ibuprofen yesterday evening. I do have to do some walking around at my current office job but fortunately it's all on the same floor. I'm trying to sit still when I'm at home for the next few days (difficult, because the weather is so nice and I want to go for walks).
