Just finished Season 2 of Avatar.
Season 2
Episode 3 “Return to Omashu”
--Hooray for return of Crazy King Bumi! I wonder if Mai had to interact with him at all? I bet he would have driven her nuts.
--Mai and Ty Lee/the girl sidekicks are endlessly amusing.
Episode 5 “Avatar Day”
--So Zuko’s listened to his uncle’s pep talk and decided that he needs to go off on his own to angst. He’s not all that bright, is he?
--I have fun imagining Zuko-the-bandit meeting Robin Hood. Robin Hood starts going off on his “steal from the rich and give to the poor” thing and Zuko says that he’s a moron.
Episode 9 “Bitter Work”
Context: Zuko talking about wanting to beat Azula: “I know she’s my sister and you’ll say we should try to get along.” “No, Azula’s crazy and she needs to go down.” I love you, Uncle Iroh!
Episode 11 “The Desert”
--Toph’s stone angel!
--This episode could be retitled “Aang’s Berserk Button”
Episode 13 “The Drill”
--In the first episodes, I never would have expected Sokka to turn into an engineer.
--Well, the general did say “please”
--Mai: Azula can shoot all the lightning she wants at me, I’m not going into that sludge.
Episode 14 “City of Walls and Secrets”
--I would love to see all the main characters end up on the same train. Hijinks ensue
--the tour guide’s face is creepy
--Iroh: This tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice!
Zuko: That’s what all tea is.
Episode 15 “Tales of Ba Sing Se”
--Aang honey, next time just move one animal at a time
--poetry slam!
--Zuko’s emo is always entertaining but it’s also fun in the moments when he acts like a normal 16-year-old boy (who doesn’t know how to talk to girls)
--Iroh and Momo’s stories: I’m just going to be over here, bawling my eyes out.
Episode 16 “Appa’s Lost Days”
--the ending: Fuck that shit! I want to see Appa and Aang reunited!
Episode 20 “The Crossroads of Destiny”
Sometimes I worry that Mai’s on sedatives but “Just take the bear” was pretty funny.
I enjoy the audio commentaries, even though I haven’t listened to all of them. One of the bits I really like is during Toph’s first episode, when several of the male directors/writers are talking about how they intentionally decided to have multiple strong female characters in this show.
