Let's hear it for one of the two women who did not have "Cause of death: Henry VIII" in her obit!
--1692: Last people hanged for witchcraft in the United States.
Thank fuck that ended. Depending on your pov, it might have all just been based on economics or unintentional drug use, anyway. Despite the screw-ups our country has, we don't have a legal policy of executing people over religion anymore.
--1908: The independence of Bulgaria is recognized.
Woot! I took a study abroad trip to Bulgaria shortly after my freshman year of college ended and ever since then, I've been a fan of the country.
