criminal stupidity

I found out that this afternoon, a man living in my area had been charged with child endangerment. Observers saw the man (23 years old, according to the news) dangling a small child out of the upper window of a house! The reason the man gave the police was that he was trying to get the child to stop crying. (No word on whether or not he thought he was Michael Jackson.)

Seriously? I get that crying children can drive anybody nuts but I would certainly not calm down if somebody was holding me outside a window. Are people really getting stupider, or does it just seem as though they are?
