Welcoming Suggestions

amelia_petkovaNext semester I will be in Valencia, Spain as an study abroad student. It is a city on the Mediterranean and one of the things it is most famous for is oranges. Other than that, I don't know much. I leave in just under a month.
I've only been abroad once before, and that was just for a couple weeks.
To everyone who has traveled, what do you recommend doing, packing, preparing for, etc? I would love to take my flute, as I don't want to go without practicing for four months, but I've been told not to bring anything that can't be easily replaced. (Damn.) I am taking any and all travel advice, so start commenting, por favor!
