This weekend I went shopping with Mom for Respectable Clothing, suitable for potential interviews. Ended up finding a pair of black slacks and a blazer. I look pretty good (also like I'm going to a funeral, but that's besides the point) but I have some issues with the whole process. (At least I'm not going to work as a lawyer or some such. Dressing up once in a while is fun but I think I'd flip if I had to do a lot more shopping like this.)

Dear women's fashion designers,

For the love of god, give us pockets!!! I want pockets in either my dress slacks or good jacket, damn it! And not those stupid little slits that look like pockets but are just there for decoration. I realize that you're thinking of how the outfit will hang but all I need is something big enough for a bit of money and my house keys. It's not like I'm planning to carry around hand weights. I'm not sure you've realized that women's clothing should be practical and attractive at the same time. Also, you need to work on designing pants that look good around the waist without showing out butts and underwear to the world when we sit down. This currently requires either hitching up pants before sitting or wearing long tops. Employers do not want their employees to be exposing themselves when seated. I would like to comply.

Next, I would like to believe that you are intelligent enough to communicate with one another and establish consistent sizing, but have no proof. It would be nice if I didn't have to grab up to four different sizes of pants when choosing between brands and stores.

Although I like my blazer, it's a bit difficult to reach above chest level without it bunching up. Is this a case in which I need to shop better, or is this a subtle commentary that Nice Girls Shouldn't Reach For Things Themselves?

No love,

Me
