something I never thought I'd see
May. 18th, 2009 09:02 amYesterday afternoon, my father has me sit down on the couch, saying, "You have to see this." On screen is a roomful of African-Americans in 70s fashions, dancing and eating in a nightclub.
"So? What is this supposed to be?"
He said, with just a bit of glee, "It's a movie called Blacula."
"What?!"
I saw about ten minutes in all, scattered here and there. Unfortunately(?), I wasn't watching this right when it began and stopped when it was time for dinner. As such, I don't know if it's supposed to follow the original story or just takes the basis for it. From what I've looked up on imdb so far, the movie is what it sounds like: an all-black cast that filmed a version of Dracula in the 1970s. The black Dracula wears a tux and cape in this nightclub (of course) while everyone else is in current fashions. The best part so far was when a cake was brought over for the birthday of one of the characters and Blacula draws back. All I could think was, "I don't eat...cake."
I've yet to find out whether he's an Eastern European vampire or comes from Africa, or who knows where. Clearly I'll have to watch the whole thing sometime.
Since I'm on the topic, one of my other favorite on-crack vampire movies is a version of Dracula filmed in 1979.
( I am not making up any of the following in that movie )
