Cats rock

They turn up in the most unexpected places. On this website is a story about cats living in Russia's Hermitage Museum. I can think of two other examples of cats ruling the roost.

When I went to the Alhambra in Granada there were very well-fed stray cats roaming through the place. There were alcoves roped off so they could get away from the tourists if wanted, and I have a great photo of a cat sitting by a pool and staring at the goldfish.

When I was working at a library in high school, one day I looked down from my work area on a balcony and saw two of the librarians making much over a kitten. The day before another librarian had been leaving work and heard this sound coming from the bushes. There was a kitten there! This library is downtown. Who the heck abandons a pet there? Apparently all the workers in our library were suckers for cats, and I spent most of the rest of my workday playing with the charming little guy. (After he tried to fall asleep in my boss' lap and perched a co-worker's shoulder.)
