Realizations
Sep. 23rd, 2007 02:06 pmOne of the things I like about my campus is that we have a lot of trees. This one area in particular that you drive by to get to the overnight parking is a small wood. I love being outdoors, but I've never gotten around to hiking there. The school does a "Haunted Forest" there every Halloween. I've never made it to that, either. But the trees are changing and it's beautiful.
So I'm driving along and I realize, "Oh! It's like Mythago Wood!" where the Ryhope Estate (this book takes place in England) has three miles' worth of untouched, prehistoric forest. Our wood isn't nearly that large, but I had the same feeling. Though I doubt hallucinations will start coming out of my wood, or that it will swallow people up in a week's worth of our time but ten years' worth of theirs, or that I will have a Roman-Celtic warrior for a lover. (Woe.)
My adventures are limited to going off to eat apples under trees.
It's pomegranate season!
