Books, books...did I mention books?
Aug. 6th, 2007 08:39 pmI've been working on a story that involves Scandinavian folklore, so I end up reading lots of fairy tales. Here are some of the great ones:
The Troll With No Heart in His Body and Other Tales of Trolls, from Norway retold by Lise Lunge-Larsen and illustrated by Betsy Bowen
Great Swedish Fairy Tales translated by Holger Lundbergh and illustrated by John Bauer
I fell in love with Bauer's illustrations when I was very little, they're that beautiful. I finally gave in and ordered copies of both books (Bauer's is out of print, at least in the United States) and am waiting on pins and needles for them to arrive. There are other northern folklore books, but I can't recall titles at the moment.
