I finished Avatar!

amelia_petkovaI just went ahead and finished the last 6 episodes today since I had time and couldn't stop thinking about it. (Now I'll supposedly be able to concentrate on things like my novel and the job hunt.)
I'm still going along with periodic observations since too many major things happen in this season for me to say everything I feel. There may be more once I get around to watching the rest of the audio commentaries.
SEASON 3
Episode 4 “Sokka’s Master”
--In the audio commentary for this episode one of the things that surprised me was how the creators modeled the Fire Nation landscape on Iceland. I hadn’t expected that at all.
--I adore the clip of Sokka clapping his hands in glee. “Shopping!”
Episode 6 “The Avatar and the Firelord”
--Technically everybody has four great-grandfathers, but since two of them are presumably irrelevant to the plot, I’ll let it slide.
--I love that Zuko’s reaction to finding out that he and Aang are sort-of related is, “OMG cooties!”
Episode 8 “The Puppetmaster”
--The kids are telling ghost stories! Am now imagining crossovers with Are You Afraid of the Dark?
--Bloodbending oh my god creepy do not want do not want ew! Although I have to say I’m a bit grateful—if this weren’t a children’s show that could have been a lot…gorier.
Episodes 10-11 “The Day of Black Sun, Parts 1 and 2”
Well, that was a downer. On the other hand, Zuko said “Screw you” to his father and got away with it!
Episode 12 “The Western Air Temple”
--Zuko being a dork! Katara threatening to kill him and he believes it!
--I’m curious to know what Iroh’s up to in the time after his jailbreak. (Besides drinking tea.)
--I love that Teo manages to zoom all over the place and air glide while even in a wheelchair.
Episode 14 “The Boiling Rock, Part 1”
--There is so much great dialogue in this episode.
Sokka: Are you happy now?
Zuko: I’m never happy.
Sokka: My first girlfriend turned into the moon.
Zuko: That’s rough, buddy.
--Suki!
Episode 15 “The Boiling Rock, Part 2”
--“I’m saving the jerk who dumped me.” You’re so awesome, Mai.
--I know a couple spoilers for the end of the series, one of which is that Azula goes batshit insane. (I know a few of the things that happen, I just don’t know how they will happen.) She’s always been a bit tightly wound to begin with, and I think you can really see the cracks in her mind starting to take place when Mai and Ty Lee turn on her.
--Even though I’m happy that Ty Lee helped Mai, I was still kind of disappointed that we didn’t get to see Suki beat Ty Lee in their fight.
--Now I’m wondering if we’ll get to see Mai and Ty Lee break out of jail.
Episode 17 “The Ember Island Players”
Many of the bits hit my embarrassment squick but I still like the idea of in-canon meta.
Episode 18 “Sozin’s Comet, Part 1: The Phoenix King”
--I love that Toph declares it’s her turn to have a life-changing road trip with Zuko.
--Wow, Azula is really about to crack.
Episode 19 “Sozin’s Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters”
--Jun cameo!
--The moving island (which turns out to be a lion turtle) reminds me of Laputa: Castle in the Sky. I wonder if it’s an intentional homage?
Episode 21 “Sozin’s Comet, Part 4: Avatar Aang”
I find it amazing that nobody ever has a broken back from all the wall/rock slams this show (also applies to animation in general).
Fan fiction
--I want crack fic about the “four masters” from White Lotus having wacky adventures. (Iroh can come along occasionally but I think he'll mostly be busy with his tea shop.)
--Let’s assume that bending is genetically inherited (the show strongly implies it). What would happen if a child was born to bender parents from two different nations?
--I want fic (potentially crack fic) about Ty Lee meeting the Kyoshi warriors in prison and “bonding.”
