Tech writing is where I've seen a lot of folks turn their liberal arts degrees into lucrative careers - maybe not where most folks with English degrees thought they'd end up, sure, but it's not bad work and the pay beats most. It's really not about the science and tech. I'm an oddity in the field for having come from a tech background into writing; it's much harder to teach an engineer to communicate than to teach a writer about computers.
