ouch

xkcd accurately summarizes the majority of children's fantasy in three panels. Too true. I'm surprised children's fantasy hasn't revolted.

Without even trying hard, I can think of (to varying degrees of accuracy--the children are kicked out of the world they discovered):
--The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
--The Dark is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper
--Seaward by Susan Cooper
--Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

They touched on that a little bit in the second Narnia book. Though I happen to think that having them live out their entire lives as Kings and Queens in Narnia, then popping them back as English schoolchildren was kind of dickish.

I don't think the film adaptation of Prince Caspian was as good as LWW but one thing I think they did well was showing how hard it was for the Pevensies to readjust to being "unimportant" children after being grown-up kings and queens.
