Carmilla and Utena parallels, Part 2
Thanks God I got this done before Season 2 starts airing. Time for a look at the other characters! Cut tags for spoilers still apply.
There are several parallels between the Dean and Akio. Both are creepy immortals who run schools. The Dean even has a special council that makes me think of the Student Council at Ohtori. However the Dean also reminds me of Mikage, in that she’s involved in something bigger than she is; her “must deal with it as best we can” comment when possessing Laura makes me think that she got in over her head in the beginning.
Perry is Wakaba, if anyone. They just want everything to be normal, normal, normal. Sorry, but that’s not happening.
Danny could be Juri. They’re both tall, badass redheads. On a non-Utena note, Danny says in Episode 7 that the Summer Society has an annual Adonis Festival and Hunt. Now I want to write fic about that, or fic where the Summer Society engages in Bacchic celebrations during which they engage in Maenad-type behavior. It goes badly whenever any Zeta boys try to infiltrate.
Will is Touga—they’re both sleazy minions.
I’m not sure that LaFontaine and Kirsch have character equivalents. Kirsch isn’t always very bright but he’s too nice to be Saionji.
Silas University and Ohtori Academy are also far too much alike for comfort. The Dean and Chairman, the student councils, the Dean’s coven and the Nemuro Memorial Hall boys, and all of the wacky stuff that goes on—the Alchemy Club’s experiments that get out of control (giant attack mushrooms), the animal antics (usually caused by Anthy), the curry body-switching explosions, the Silas University Glee Club that’s made up of zombies or some other creepy undead creatures…you get the idea.
