signal boosting most recent facebook creepiness

Apparently no matter how many of its users scream, "DO NOT WANT!" the people running Facebook still do not get it.

Facial recognition has been implemented in the photos on your Facebook account. Article includes instructions on how to turn it off.

It caught me out the first day it came into effect when I was updating birthday photos. I was more unimpressed by the fact it said one of my male friends, with a beard no less, was me.

So not only is it Big Brother technology, it's incompetent as well!

Has this been around for a while? I only learned about it yesterday. (In a world where Facebook knows how to communicate with its customers, it would send notifications when these kinds of things are added to your account. LJ is by not means perfect but at least they send out regular updates.)

I heard vague rumblings about it a few weeks back, and supposedly they weren't going to go ahead with it. Which - in facebook speak - translates to "We'll do it without telling you anyway".
