A conversation my mother and I had today went something like this:

Mom: Would you be interested in seeing that movie Black Swan? It's supposed to be good.
Me: ...Are you sure? It's pretty dark, you know.
Mom: Yeah, but it's about ballet and the Swan Lake story.
Me: It's not so much a retelling of the Swan Lake story. It's more like a suspense or horror movie. Have you even seen any trailers for this?
Mom: No, but it got good reviews in the paper!
Me: ...Watch some of the trailers first.

[later]

Mom: I don't think I want to see Black Swan anymore.
Me: That's what I thought.

HEE. I take it she actively dislikes horror/suspense.

I'll admit, she's a bit squeamish when it comes to darker films.
