I'd advise a bit of restraint on the self-righteous fury so many people seem to be caught up in. It was a legitimate mistake; while the scale seems remarkable, this is something that can and will happen. And, yes, they definitely do deserve the same benefit of the doubt as you or I deserve. To quote another commenter, "When you *can't* hear that there was a reasonable explanation that wasn't bigotry, it disinclines people to listen to your reports when it really *is* a case of fucked-uppitude."
